matthew.brough Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Also long term the real service visit will extend (like car service schedules have) so remote servicing and the reduced staff level and cost savings etc is inevitable Agreed, I think the human race is doomed for employment chances. There will be a day that computer automation can do it all. There will be no point to human workforce as the technology will advance to the stage that robots are the workforce. I'm just hoping I die before it happens! Was in the supermarket earlier, only 3 on the tills, everyone else using self service. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
Oxo Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 What bits do you need to see? Battery checks, walk tests, signalling checks, log checks, tampers etc can all be done on rri. What bit do you think is missing? Show me how to cause a tamper on zone 2105 by RRI
sjsturner Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 You telling me you have never visually seen something that you know is going to be problem just by looking at it? Most things youl find to fix or adjust on a visit youl find without the use of many tools Agreed, I think the human race is doomed for employment chances. matthew.brough Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 With respect james your areas of work and mine are v different and i can tell you we wouldent keep our customers if we used this option. The personal touch and face behind the voice still counts for a lot Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying rri's are better than face to face. Just wondering when it won't be possible to add up financially in the future. I love having meetings face to face, but FaceTime / webex is good enough and a huge cost saver. I believe Maintenon checks on site will become the same. Nice to have, but too expensive. This maybe an opportunity for smaller local installers as I believe any company of size will be using rri heaven and give the smaller guys with a local presence and advantage. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
Oxo Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 If this is how people are thinking then how is fire detection going to advance? A burning buliding signals the 2nd floor did not activate but the 6th did? And all above the 23rd are going to die? PSs the bill for RRI is in the post.
sjsturner Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I find it somewhat strange that you wouldent install a dualcom but you would give a thumbs up to a system youve not looked at. Not a dig at you matt i just cant see the logic and hope your wrong cus i hate the jeremy kyle show so dont want to end up enemployed!
matthew.brough Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Show me how to cause a tamper on zone 2105 by RRI Agreed. How many engineers tamper all the devices on onsite visits would be the next question though. Handful of guys that really really care? Most engineers wouldn't bother. Most engineers I've come across an onsite visit is a case of having a coffee, check panel battery (remote PSUs to hard to find) and signalling and job done. A far cry from what they should be doing, especially the nationals. I totally get your point, but for the onsite to be better than the robot, the human has to do a thorough job and I haven't seen a ton of evidence to say they do. The time they spend on site is the big clue. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
goncall Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 rri wont end up with cheaper costs,i'll put my life on it,ri's might be boring to some, but its not just testing a system, its a pmv as you say, identify any potential problems etc,and last but not least, its customer relations, its building trust etc and that leads to extra works and upgrades without the need for hard sell, many customers trust what their local engineer says rather than someone theve never met..imo

I totally get the point, but I am aware of 2 fire manufacturers currently developing a similar idea for fire panels. I don't know if a reg change is coming that allows it, but if not I'd ask why are they bothering developing. Very worrying oxo. I agree. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
