morecoffee
Hi, I've been thinking about fitting an alarm and I've had a couple of quotes from security firms, both of which have recommended a hybird wired/wireless system, coming in at around £750 (basically, control panel, keypad, 4/5 wired pirs, 2 wireless pirs, 2 wireless door contacts, wired bell box, dummy bell box). The wireless part covers some out buildings that would be very difficult to route wires to. So I was thinking would it be a option to go fully wireless and install myself - I'm quite technically able and I'm sure I could tackle it. I realise the wireless stuff gets mixed reviews - but the technology seems to be getting there. Question is, which system, will it be reliable, and would it save me money compared to having it fitted by professionals. I like the Texecom Ricochet technology and I think that may work well for my setup as some of the outbuildings will be potentially out of range, but with 100% wireless system I should be able to use the repeater functionality should my farthest PIR be too far away. Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.
james.wilson
There is more to a pro system than just the installation. But i dont use either system. the pyronix unit will be cheaper but is more wireless focused than true hybrid. The premier is a true hybrid and is more flexible and powerful. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount. matthew.brough
£750? I'd bit their hand off and save yourself the inevitable pain of a DIY install on what is a professional piece of kit with the added re-assurance that any post installation issues aren't yours. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/

sixwheeledbeast
For 750 it's not worth the hassle. You maybe capable of mounting/fitting but you won't get any manuals with the control equipment. This normally confuses most DIY installers. morecoffee
I think you are probably right. I've just roughly priced up an equivalent fully wireless system and it does not save me much money. I found somewhere online that did a texecom wireless kit for £315 (inc, control panel, 3 PIRs, door contact, shock sensor, keypad, smartkey), but I'd need to get additional 3 PIRS and bell-boxes. The wireless PIR's seem to be the thing rack the cost up, £60 each. The Castle/Pyronix option works out cheaper.
datadiffusion
£750 sounds pretty good to me, too. Just make sure they aren't intending to fit wireless PIRs to unheated sheds etc... So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
