Scantronic 9651Pd To Honeywell Ag8 Sounder/strobe Connections

I am about to install a Scantronic 9651PD and Honeywell AG8 External Sounder/Strobe.

I should be grateful if anyone can please confirm I have understood the connections correctly between the 9651 and the AG8. My uncertainty arises from the fact that the manual for 9651 shows connections to a "typical" external siren/strobe which has 7 connectors whereas the AG8 only has 5.

The AG 8 manual also throws in some confusion of its own by referring to its connectors as:     ST-     R-     SW-   V+   V-

yet the connections actually marked on the unit itself are: TR-   S-   V+   V-   ST-

The AG 8 manual also contains a table of connections to a range of control panels (including Scantronic) but these don't tie up (entirely) with those on my Scantronic panel.

I have assumed that the AG8 "TR-" connection is the "R-" referred to in the manual; likewise, the "S-" is the "SW-"?

On this basis, am I correct in thinking that the following connections should be made from the 9651 to the AG8:

9651                           AG8

12V Aux         to           V+

0V                  to           V-

Output 1        to            S-

Output 2        to            ST-

TR                 to            TR-

I am using EOL so presumably (and assuming the above is correct) the resistor goes (in series) just before the connection to TR- in the AG8?

I would rather be sure I have understood this properly before I start.

Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Hi JamesWilson

Thanks for your response.

There isn't a resistor or link in the AG8 at the moment.

The AG8 manual has a diagram showing a resistor and diode "fitted if required" to R- though the text only refers to fitting the diode "if used in Eire". The Scantronic manual refers to fitting a resistor to the TR terminal in the sounder (and then programming as EOL).

Didn't think anyone was still fitting 9651's

Fitted loads a few years back .

Have a few on manitence but they seem to always have issues and end up getting ripped out.

Never used EOL on SNDR before usually just -ve return

Thanks for all responses. [The 9651PD is a new (2012) version of the older 9651 range and offers power consumption 70% less than previous models].

Thanks for the info.

Not fitting Scannys any more , gone Galaxy with UDL - have quite a few scans on UDL but the software is a PITA

Weve been down the menvier(scantronic) road for a while now, and like the new range apart from the rkp cus they havent made it with zones yet! Pita for a takeover where the previous has used rkp zones! Mseries were beasts tho as were the large ts panels. With the exeption of id loops hate that ****, never got the right biscuit!!

Think the biscuits are a biatch to get hold of now too. Must say cooper tech support aint what used to be either :-(

Had a few jobs with biscuits in a previous life .

Like you say can be a pain.

Was even worse when the panel failed. Think we fitted a castle euro on one job, but that was about 4 years ago.

Only ever called tech support for a panel not accepting callback . Turned out to be a faulty modem.

I had an almost unresponsive rkp (turned out to be menu timout timer set to 0)

And tech started telling me about addresses and wards??

I told him i knew about that, he just kept pausing and muttering i gave up in the end and found it myself.

When there reps came and showed the new panel it was mentioned that tech wasent what it used to be and apparently

they had many complaints to the same effect.

Everyone has to start somewhere but as an eng you hope that the guy your asking to help knows more about it than you already do!
