BUSTER Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Hi Ive just started a small cctv firm and have got a couple of good domestic jobs to start , i offer small domestic alarms but really dont want to bother with them as i have found them a lot of hassle ( fault finding once installed and dont want any call outs). Im after commercial work with cameras really and was thinking that if im say nsi approved will it really get me more of this sort of of work or will i be better off just staying as i am. I am a sole trader at the moment as i havent really got enough work to go Ltd. But i do have all the correct insurances and the crb check to get it. Im sure that you lot have more experience with the NSI or SSAIB than me and wonder if they do one just primarily for CCTV. How much does it cost a year and do you have to be approved to be able to install cctv for commercial or industrial. If you become approved you will have to offer this service Thanks michael Any comments / opinions posted are my opinion only and do not represent those of my employer or Company
Cubit Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 If you become approved you will have to offer this service But don't have to accept.
Joe Harris Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Make sure you get those Swann DVRs on the latest firmware with all recent exploitations published :/

arfur mo Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 being registered (and i'm not) is a very different situation in CCTv, in alarm systems it allows ARC connections that can be Policed and insurance companies often insist on it for commercial and high end houses, so you can be barred from a lot of good work no atter how good you are. Aiming at large companies won't guarantee to pay enough especially to an unknown installer to cover the cost, sure you will get invites to quote, spend time on site tender visits, draw plans - and likely get nothing, already a done deal with favoured contractor, often your used to keep their price down, worse take your ideas and get the sparks to fit it. my advice is broaden you base into phones, networking door entry, the more you can offer the less hassle for the client and offer good returns. If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
