I've fitted a few sounders inside, usually in multiple occupancy office blocks where the landlord doesn't want anything fitted in the lobby.

I would say as and when required.    I have replaced batteries every 30days due to being made badly and I recently replaced a system however system was working very well for last 20years with no major replacements
