arfur mo Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 Welcome back to tsi. I was the R&D teams of UTC the past couple of days and nearly all the new products and existing ones sold in parts if Europe are exactly the setup you describe. All wireless and GPRS to the arc but its doesn't yet seem to have taken off here. I too haven't been a huge fan of wireless but the modern kit does seem to be of a much better standard than the days of old and the quick and clean installation is certainly attractive to a res. taking approval out of the way, what stops the end user doing self install as in other parts of the world? it's a question we as a trade have to batt on a regular basis tbh, these days it no longer a lack art, anyone can put up an alarm system wired, radio, home brew or some string and tin cans, but if it go's wrong who will they turn to? effectively we (should) sell professionalism and peace if mind as any other trade. While it is very easy to install, the programming is a, sub version of Martian/American/far far Eastern terms, as example what UK call part set is 'HOME', FULL SET is 'Away' FM is Follow Me - not a kind of radio set. Not impossible for a DIY person to succeed, some i've seen have been very good indeed, but most - well lets say i've had some good laughs. If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Oxo Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Errrrrrrrrrrrrrr Stop the train...........................Actually it`s now even further from Essex....................Phew WB..........
matthew.brough Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I remember when I first went to the states and saw that Danny DIY could do the install, call the central station to program and commence monitoring and apply for a permit to get police response. Don't get me wrong, standard of install usually dire. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
Oxo Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Thought they had to be licenced and all that. Certainly the locksmiths I knew who went there or worked there had to be. Never got into the alarms with them as they said aunty had it swamped. Perhaps I was misinformed. Now makes me wonder about the offer I had to guarrantee a green card!
matthew.brough Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 They are very ott on the companies especially centrals. UL this UL that CP101 etc etc but mr DIY free to do what he wants. The idea of a takeover is the new central shipping a gizmo that goes between the panel and the (plugged in) phone socket to divert signals. No service tech visit required. Can you imagine us doing that? Auntie has unbelievable penetration, especially with the brinks acquisition. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
Oxo Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I knew aunty was big big big, Same as in Aus I believe ( TBC now I suppose). As for "us" doing that..........lol However I did know of one SSAIB and another Silver taking on these "fitted by sparkies as doing other work" and allowed them to have responce. Pidgeons, A, Cat......work out the rest. Oh , he was a ex copper himself...........................funny that innit!!!! Shakes hands with you whilst standing on one foot and twisting your cuticle.
matthew.brough Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Suppose you could it was a 'takeover' www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
