sjsturner Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Ive used the ion a few times and they do work well but for how long? And how secure are they? Thats whats going through my mind The rkp is used on the menvier i series panels now too, with no zones on it!!!
cybergibbons Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Ok fair enough. I know scanny boasted long range with their kit, saying free air was reliable to something like 4 kilometers iirc. Are you saying the transmission of rf is like friedland or the encription side of it? Really? It's just standard licence-exempt RF stuff, so limited in power. It uses 2-FSK modulation, so you can't get the higher power afforded when using FHSS. The panel has a transceiver in it so it can send and receive, and the fobs do as well. But the detectors I have seen have transmitters only so are one way. Major limitation really. There doesn't appear to be any encryption. So, it meets the standard, but it feels like that is all it does. I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:http://cybergibbons.com/
james.wilson Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 there is a new rf standard about to be published for draft comment I believe. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

Who knows really though? Only got their word for it. So afayk the panel is 2 way but detectors 1 way? Im just popping to all my ion sites
james.wilson Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 so the important bits are 1 way? securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

Even line-of-sight, you can't get more than 100m or so. I think one of the Honeywell systems (Domonial or something?) claimed km but there was no way it could do that. so the important bits are 1 way? The single door contact I have is, yes. I don't know if they have different detectors that are better than one another? I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:http://cybergibbons.com/
james.wilson Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Sorry we sell the scanny on warehouse, never used one though. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
cybergibbons Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 It's clearly had more development than Friedland gear. The panel has a lot more flexibility. What I don't understand is why pretty much every component of the Scantronic gear has a different RF front end and microprocessor. It's like 5 different design teams worked on it. Must be a pain for them. I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:http://cybergibbons.com/
james.wilson Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 possibly using some stuff from the menvier range when they were separate? securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Oxo Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Intergrating again? Burnt their fingers last time they started swapping.
