We run SBS2011 via a Netgear FVS336GV2

Router is set to 192.168.0.1

SBS is set to 192.168.0.2 : Subnet 255.255.255.0

SBS is DHCP server for network

I am now setting up a VMware Sphere virtual server and have done a clean install of SBS 2011 on it

I want to get the new server up and running, ready to switch over after I have tested it and am happy with it

With SBS2011 you cannot have two dhcp servers on the same network so I was going to set up a secondary lan ip on the router of 10.0.0.1 and give the new SBS an address of 10.0.0.2 with a subnet of 255.0.0.0

I have put equipment accidently on the network in the past that had dhcp switched on and caused absolute chaos hence my question before I try it

Would it work or would I finish up with two dhcp servers clashing with each other, or is their another way?

What are my options, I am not that network savvy

I'd either do it as you suggest (a VLAN so the two don't collide) or turn it off on both whilst you transition from one to the other.

James - SBS has a fit with multiple DHCP servers for some reason.

I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:
