bee_man Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Could somebody reccommend a good book on intruder alarms please?. I'm more interested in detailed info on wired system than wireless which I have learned the hard way. I saw Intruder Alarms by Gerard Honey on Amazon and thought it looked appropriate. Any thoughts please? bee_man
MrHappy Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I think where more a black art than book art? Mr Veritas God
bee_man Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 Darn it, that book's blue & red. I'll look for a black one. Thanks bee_man
Simlec Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Intruder Alarms by Gerard Honey Third Edition Its a good read covering most of what you will need to know.
bee_man Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 Certainly gave a good impression. I'll look for 3rd edition, many thanks. bee_man
cybergibbons Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Personally, I'm not so keen on the book. It has typos and errors. Some of the stuff that is more complex, like relays and bellbox wiring, isn't covered in enough detail. But I don't install alarms. I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:http://cybergibbons.com/
sjsturner Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Intruder Alarms by Gerard Honey Was it the honey part that attracted you? I would be suprised if you would learn an lot from a book on alarms but might be worth a look, a bit of dc theory is usefull too.
Scotmod Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 If you wanted to get in to the nitty gritty then any GSCE electronics themed book on open and closed circuits. Series parallel circuits and resistance would do you better. Then head on to ebay, buy an old panel with an engineers manual and get stuck in to the options.
Oxo Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Agreed, seen a couple of those books over the years and none really taught a lot.
cybergibbons Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 bee_man - you can have mine for £15 if you want. I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:http://cybergibbons.com/
