Cubit Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 We have a ton of documents and the engineers have tickets for this and that. The h&s bloke does all sorts of assessments and other stuff but I must confess cubit I know very little about it. I've been happy to let others do all that stuff and just pick up the whopping bill at the end of it. In all seriousness, i'd spend some time aquainting yourself with the relevant info, Whilst a lot of it can seem at times to be a pain and nonsense, compliance is pretty easy and because very much second nature. There is also the issue of cost. If you know of the relevant issues and requirements, the cost gets built in to the job. Ignorance tends to lead to you having to stump extra to pay for the kit when the customer would have paid
matthew.brough Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I'd like to know more than I do and now with us going through 18001, chas and safe contractor now might be a good time. We have forget out a ton on cash on h&s related stuff we never factored into a job because we weren't aware of it so what you say makes a lot of sense. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
arfur mo Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Did you not see them, They were hit by god knows HV lines. Some of them burst into flames. Unfortunately my friend, I doubt they recovered from that unfortunate event i was simply expressing my sympathy, i see no need or purpose served to dwell on the gore on view. assumed survival due to the mention of 3rd degree burns, not death. fortunately, from a later post it was extabished they amazingly were not killed. If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
timmo66 Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 I have seen risk assessments copied and pasted from another job, with the wrong bleeding client name on before, so risk assessments at our place arent worth the paper they are written on. But then what hope have i got if the guy doing the risk assessments doesnt have a problem with swinging from the rafters?
matthew.brough Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I have seen risk assessments copied and pasted from another job, with the wrong bleeding client name on before, so risk assessments at our place arent worth the paper they are written on. But then what hope have i got if the guy doing the risk assessments doesnt have a problem with swinging from the rafters? That's was one of the reasons I hired someone in to do it. H&S and paperwork bores the pants off me as there's no money in it however I realise as an employer and contractor we have responsibilities which is why I hired people who get turned on by these matters. I must confess I'm if the camp of 'I didn't have any issues in my day' and think some of the stuff is ott hence why I think I did the responsible thing and hired the people would give the subject a serious cost of looking at. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
Oxo Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 So after all the above we agree ladders can be used with diligence, foresight and knowledge. Same as steps, the big yellow ones you can buy at most good wholesalers. Worked fine on the last few jobs I have done which necessitated ladders. One, even a tower would have killed someone. Ladders were a no win situation. As were steps. But accessing a height ( not high) was needed. So after careful thought and TWO engineers, it was decided to "climb" in a situation to entail the delivery and containment of cables for the use of signals. Anyone going to comment on this? Then I`ll give more info about the RA and measures taken.
norman Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 No Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Cubit Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 For those who think it can't happen and that safety procedure don't mean much This may, very sadly, help drive the issue home. Heard about it on site this week. Very sad. http://www.foodmanufacture.co.uk/People/Premier-Foods-contractor-in-fatal-accident
