james.wilson Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 At least the remote wasn't being sold for more than the TV to recoup the indirect costs of the whole range id agree, but the control panel does not command the price it should. ie using your remote control argument, id like to ask how much your tv was vs your remote. The industry has faced an issue where the costs of parts were hidden vs a decent labour rate. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
GalaxyGuy Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 It's probably about 100:1 ratio. Profit from hardware is probably not such a good long term business model anyway. It's just a necessary evil for some... On the point of "bang goes the business": It's Interesting to see how Honeywell are monetizing the domestic security market in the US with their consumer based integrated gadgetry. All with customers locked in to their recurring revenue model and backend server systems. It's like the ADT model on steroids. I think they're about to try and dip their toes with this across Europe with the Flex 3, as they have new lower cost panel and connectivity options in the pipeline. You seeing this yet ? I have noticed a recent spike in Honeywell Flex based customers for monitoring in central Europe, but still don't know if the strategy will work for the UK.
james.wilson Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Afaik adt have dropped the Honeywell product for a Tyco owned product. In this case a visonic unit. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
matthew.brough Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 A big player educating the uk market on these services might not be such a bad thing? The uk space seems largely bells only land, so if the consumer of tomorrow wants cloud based, recur subscription models surely this would be of benefit to all the security companies that have invested in this technology? www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
Oxo Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 which one? The one I answered to. Not needing a panel or RKPs
MrHappy Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 if the consumer of tomorrow wants cloud based, recur subscription models surely this would be of benefit to all the security companies that have invested in this technology? I suspect there be low / no cost product which harvests their smart phone details for targeted advertising or similar Mr Veritas God
