Guest toasty Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Wow! That's a fancy system. To be honest I did consider a Galaxy, but: a) Don't you need expensive software to program it? (Texe stuff is £10) considering I'd only use it for one system (I'm not in the alarm trade) seems a bit of a waste B) I can't find a retailer who'll sell me a Galaxy (safedirect sell Texe stuff at what seems like a good price) c) I'm not sure I'd use all the features.... actually if they are there I'll use them in the end But always open to advice, here's what I was planning. Mag reeds on all external doors and windows (probably double as beam pairs or confirmed but still undecided) dualtec pirs in all rooms (maybe quad ones as I hate false alarms, again perhaps as pairs or set the alarm confirmed only) a speech dialer, ethernet module if I can find one (failing that serial) 3 external boxes (SAB and SCB) external pirs at front and rear interfacing to outside lights, relays across most of the internal lighting so I can simulate being home when out (random timers) lots of internal sounders and speakers (so it's unpleasantly loud in the house when they go off) Smokes, CO detectors and probably those solenoid shoot bolts on the back and front doors, and a few keypads Going to fit it all myself, loacte the control box in the loft so it's hard to get to. So would a galaxy (if I could get one) offer me any other benefits over the premier for my application? Also, I have a question RE zone expanders, I was planning on locating them alongside the control box, I know this will result in far more cable, but I think I'll see a benefit as they'll be easily accessible should I have a fault and all my outputs and input will terminate at the same point, I'm thinking this will give me the most flexibility should I want to reconfigure something later on. Is that a good idea or bad lads!
Guest RICHL Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 That should just about do it. The only things you've forgotten are a smokecloak and shotgun. Where do you live, Baghdad?

Galaxy Gold is the software you need and yes it is expensive, VERY expensive..... B) that dosn't supprise me as the galaxy is high end proffesional equipment. I got my galaxy from ebay and saved myself over £200 on the cheapest price i could find elsewhere. c) You'll NEVER use all the features, it does that many things it's silly. But always open to advice, here's what I was planning.Mag reeds on all external doors and windows (probably double as beam pairs or confirmed but still undecided) dualtec pirs in all rooms (maybe quad ones as I hate false alarms, ers) lots of internal sounders and speakers (so it's unpleasantly loud in the house when they go off) Smokes, CO detectors and probably those solenoid shoot bolts on the back and front doors, and a few keypadsagain perhaps as pairs or set the alarm confirmed only) a speech dialer, ethernet module if I can find one (failing that serial) 3 external boxes (SAB and SCB) external pirs at front and rear interfacing to outside lights, relays across most of the internal lighting so I can simulate being home when out (random tim Going to fit it all myself, loacte the control box in the loft so it's hard to get to. Dualtec are more reliable than quads, quads are basicly 2 pirs in the same casing, for false alarm resistance idealy you need different detection technologies as in the Dualtec, being both pir/microwave or pir/ultrasonic.everything you mention above sounds ok to me. it's simlar to what i have installed here. either the galaxy or a premier will do the job fine. So would a galaxy (if I could get one) offer me any other benefits over the premier for my application? Well, the Galaxy is designed for large commercial/industrial sites with dozens of users. The Premier was aimed at mid-high end domestic/retail sites and small commercial although the bigger Premiers are capable of large site coverage. Personally, I'd go for the Galaxy, It's what I have installed in my own house and I'm more than pleased with it. You sound like you like fiddling with things, so do I, and I've got all manner of things controlled by the Galaxy. for example, this week i've been interfacing the house security cams into the Galaxy to provide better security light control. and i've added a logging printer. The Premier can do all you want to do though, and at a much cheaper price. Also, I have a question RE zone expanders, I was planning on locating them alongside the control box, I know this will result in far more cable, but I think I'll see a benefit as they'll be easily accessible should I have a fault and all my outputs and input will terminate at the same point, I'm thinking this will give me the most flexibility should I want to reconfigure something later on.Is that a good idea or bad lads! 22698 Site them where you wish, with the galaxy, you would never need to recable to reconfigure, just alter the programming to suit Hope this helps Regards Bellman Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
Brian c Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 That's a very unbiased reply for you bellman some very good advice p.s I'd also fit the rio's/expanders next to the main panel in a house...cable runs wouldn't be much of a prob and would definitely be easier for fault finding and 'fiddling'!...lokk impressive too! If you don't know......ask.

bellman Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 That's a very unbiased reply for you bellman some very good advice 22754 Don't know what you mean Bri I'm off on a factory tour in a few months of the manufacturer i'm not to keen on. We'll see if they manage to sway my opinion as it's been a few years since I installed them on a regular basis. although i'm sure everybody has their fave and "wouldn't touch with barge pole" equipment. as for advice, I'll happily dish it out if people ask me questions.
