PeterJames Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Thanks for the responses I know you guys may be used to installing pro kits but this is a 2 cam DIY job so Im not guarding the crown jewels lol, my wireless IR baby monitor gives good video in complete darkness ( http://www.summerinfant.com/boost/video/baby-touch%C2%AE-plus ), so if a wireless camera can do that i dont see why i wouldnt be able to find a wired camera for approx £150 each that wouldnt be able to do a half descent job - it doesnt need face/number plate recognition etc.. And if any of you watched this weeks gadget show you would have saw how phone camera technology is nearly at par with professional video cameras I've had a look on systemq.com and can get an alien hero 654 DVR for £139+vat (no HDD - i have one i can use) - seems to be alot of good feedback for the alien range and this seems to fit my needs, it records video and has remote network/phone viewing - not sure why this wouldnt be able to do the job? So that leaves me around £165 per cam Most of the ones in this budget seem to cover 30M IR, have 600+TVL, however being a newbie has anyone tried or seen any cameras that could be suitable for my requirements? I've seen cameras from Xvision, Nitedevil, Genie, Ganz, Qvis & Twilight http://www.onlinesecurityproducts.co.uk/twilight-vandal-domes/twilight-pro-tpevd2ir-600tvl-28-12mm-30m-ir-sony-effio.html http://www.onlinesecurityproducts.co.uk/category-874/qvis-van-e37-v2w-effio-e-650tvl-28-12mm.html http://www.onlinesecurityproducts.co.uk/ganz-vandal-domes/ganz-lltnb-ir212pa-600tvl-28-12mm-vandal-dome-with-ir.html http://www.onlinesecurityproducts.co.uk/genie-vandal-domes/genie-vrd6504ir-6000tvl-28-11mm-ai-vf-15m-ir.html http://www.onlinesecurityproducts.co.uk/informer-cctv-vandal-domes/informer-ifdv65ir-720tvl-28-12mm-25m-ir.html - Not so sure about this one http://www.y3k.com/product/19/indoor-or-outdoor-use-professional-700-tvl-30m-ir-vandal-dome-with-wdr-and-dnr-for-superior-image-quality-auto-iris-ir-cut http://www.cctvdirect.co.uk/products/Twilight-Pro-CCTV-Camera-%252d-630-TVL-%252d-2.8%252d12mm-Lens-%252d-30M-IR.html http://www.uksecuritycameras.com/collections/external-cctv-cameras/products/xvision-700-tvl-wdr-programable-ir-vandalproof-true-dome-camera-xpd721wir I couldnt comment on the DVR but I would swerve all of those cameras, the ir will reflect back into the camera. You also seemed to of missed power supply cable and monitor from your budget. Ganz is a good make. Your baby monitor camera is indoor looking at a small area and is shown on a small screen, Im not knocking it it serves a purpose perfectly. It would be no good as a CCTV camera. There are lots of CCTV systems available on the market as you have found, and I am sure you are not guarding the crown jewels (I can tell from your budget) but the sort of system you will end up with will tell you what you already know someone broke in or someone slashed your tyres, the whole point of CCTV is to record who not what.
