bellman Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Sorry to be a pain and ask another (rather vague) question...I've identified a few systems available to me for between the 30-70 pound area (some 2nd hand and some brand new). Which of these contenders should I buy for me to install in my house (competent DIYer but 1st time in installing alarm system) 1) Galaxy 16 2) Scantronic 9651 3) Gardtec 580 4) Texecom Veritas Excel 5) Karizma Plus Galaxy everytime. And would it be the same choice if my level of experience wasn't an issue?Yup, If you think you would be unable to programm or install the galaxy panel, i'm sure you can get an engineer to second fix and commision it for you. Thanks again for your advice! An Engineer Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 I'd get the Scantronic 9651. Have you seen the price?? **** are knocking them out for around **** ish. Jsut like the 9600 but the newer style keypad with prox. *** dont talk about trade distributors or prices on the open forum**** Service Engineer My opinions may not reflect those of my employer, managers, colleagues, customers, friends, family or pet rabbit.

Jsut like the 9600 but the newer style keypad with prox. 22909[/snapback] But given that I could get any of the above panels for roughly the same price, would you still recommend it over, say, the Galaxy 16+ ? Guest RICHL Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 I bet its a scruffy heap from a smokers house.

Guest Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Sorry, I'm lost here. Is everyone telling a non-competent person to install a Galaxy as a first alarm install job? Wouldn't you rather they fitted a Scantronic or Texecom so that it's more likely to work, or is that the idea, get everyone to fit Galaxys badly so someone else can go in for the refit\maintenance?
Guest RICHL Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 I was wondering the same. It does devalue the professional trade if all the kit is available to all and sundry.

This is also one of the reasons I dislike the Texecom kit so much. And in response to Lurch, The guy asked for advise over several makes / models. Iin the course of the discussion, he was advised that if he was unsure about his competance to fit a high end panel like the galaxy to consult a professional installer to final fix and / or commission it.
