Guest ravedave Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 hi. The keaypad has frozen on our Optima XM6 security alarm. Does anyone know what might correct this fault? During an evening where there was a lightening storm the keypad on the control panel gave up and is now not responding to key presses on any of the keys. The mains power light is on but none of the zone/alarmed/deactivated lights are lit. The internal fuses seem okay and I am at a loss for what to try to do... Does anyone know what might have caused the keypad lockout - I assume a power cut or something might have done something. There is an internal backup battery but as to its state I have no idea. Saying as mains power is getting in, I assume that the battery is not the source of the problem. Can anyone help me out? Many thanks, David
JB_ Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 Unfortunately these panels are well known for doing such a thing as you describe, but happily 99% of the time can be quickly and easily rectified. All you have to do is remove powerl from the control panel completely, both mains and backup battery disconnected, leave for 5 seconds and then reapply, mains 1st i think. One note when you do put power back on is that once you stop the noise with your code the panel will appear to be dead again because the front tamper is open, but when you put the front cover back on it should 'bleep' at you and just leave the green 'power' light on and red 'day' light on(or other way round, cant rememner now.) If that doesnt work then post again.
Guest Adrian Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 B) Hi there A thought for you if when you power up do not connect the battery if ever thing seems fine put the battery on if it locks up again your battery maybe faulty. How old is your battery? if its 3-4 years old and never been tested go and buy a new one. Adrian B)
dinefwr Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 I get about 30 people a week in my group with the same problem. As Adrian said its your battery 99% of the time.
JB_ Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 Still think if it has got a duff battery it'll be completely co-incidental. IMHO Optima's are THE worst panel for locking up at the drop of a hat.
Guest ravedave Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 Okay. So what I have to do is this : 1. Disconnect mains power 2. Disconnect internal battery 3. Wait 5 seconds 4. Reconnect mains power 5. Reconnect internal battery 6. Alarm will sound. Turn off using keycode 7. Close panel door. The system will beep. If this doe not work, then retry without reconnecting internal battery? Is this correct. Why does this happen? Is the fact that it happened during a lightning storm coincidental
