James490x Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Hello everyone. I hope someone can help with my query. I think I have explained everything OK... I have a Risco Gardtec 490x with a single internal sounder (a Knights Plastics I30). I want to add a second internal sounder (of the same make and model) in the garage as I can’t hear the present one from there and so sometime accidentally trigger the alarm. The internal sounder connections are in the main panel on the first floor and I want to install the second sounder on the ground floor on the opposite site of the wall from the present one i.e. right behind it. It would be a pain to route a second cable from the main panel to the second sounder so I’d rather ‘piggy-back’ the present one - if it’s OK to do that. Can I do this and - if so - how would I wire it up? This model of sounder has a tamper switch. The internal sounder terminals on the main panel are marked SPR and SPR+ and the manual says ‘internal speakers min 16 ohm’. The present sounder is marked ‘16ohm 0-25w’. Thanks
Alarm Protection Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 How many cores are going to the 1st spkr? Say 6 so 2 core for spkr one. Use the spare ones for the second spkr and wire in parallel to the panel spkr + spkr - and tamp pair if you want to use the tamper as it is DIY. !
James490x Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 Thanks. The cable is 6 core. I get using the first pair for the first sounder (as it is now) and the second pair for the second (new sounder), but not sure I follow about tamper for the second sounder...
Alarm Protection Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Tbh James I would get a local installer to your area to set this up for you. !
James490x Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 That's an option I was considering but quotes were very high and I'd have been annoyed if they'd just looped it in from the existing one as that'd be about 10 minute's work and I could have done it myself. The quotes aren't too bad if they have to run a new cable from the main panel but nobody will say what they'll do over the phone - and they charge to come and take a look!
Alarm Protection Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 James, With what you have said a callout charge plus 1hrs labour to get the system up and running the way you want imo. Where are you based? !
arfur mo Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 just my pennies worth, if you are using 2 x 16 ohm speakers (usually marked on the speaker driver coil), your better putting both speakers in series, in parallel you present only 8 ohms to the panel speaker terminals. iirc the G.490 has a 16 ohm rated speaker output. if i'm right you will risk seriously overloading and possible permanent damage to the main pcb, which may only show up on an extended alarm operation when you really need it. i'd personally elect to run a cheap low power piezo buzzer from the programmable output in the panel (Maplins), more penetrating over the noise of a car engine, but also less disturbing to neighbours in the early hours when rolling in from the pub . If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
James490x Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 Thanks everyone. In light of the questions and issues raised, I think that this is one of those jobs that I'll leave to the professionals,
