pbg75 Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I am looking for an alarm system/dialler that I can reset & monitor remotely via the internet. So ideally, I am after the system to text my mobile that the alarm has been activated. I can then access the alarm system via the internet find out which zone has been activated, check the CCTV also via the internet & if all is ok reset the alarm. The main reason is the property has a few outbuildings that have bats living in them which have set off the PIRs in the past & members of the staff who unlock & open the doors set the alarm off & then deny all knowledge of it as they were not suppose to be there when I’m not around.
PeterJames Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Hi and welcome to the forum, is this a DIY project or are you looking for someone that can supply and install the equipment for you?
pbg75 Posted September 8, 2013 Author Posted September 8, 2013 It will be a DIY project. As I am an electrician of 20+ years & installed fire alarm & BMS systems on commercial properties, I find it easy to do. I just need to know which kit is best to install.
james.wilson Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 As with everything best has many meanings, ie what is the best fire kit in your opinion? securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
arfur mo Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 tbh there are several panels that can do this, most that can are fairly complex as the thinking being it is not likely required on small systems. Being a Risco user the all wireless Agility with IP board offers this, as will the LightSys and ProSys wired, but the IP interface is not a cheap add on. You can control via pstn or GSM text far cheaper, if you simply require being able to set, unset listen/talk in to the premisses then these options work very much like an answer phone menu, you dial in, hit a code and follow the spoken menu easy peazy. ip version you need a pc, even if you have a lightweight laptop a very cumbersome option as opposes to using your simple handset, or a smart mobile using an app. If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
GalaxyGuy Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 It will be a DIY project. You can do this with the Honeywell Galaxy range of panels. The G2 series and low cost Ethernet probably works out the cheapest IP solution, but if you have outbuildings, you may need to look at the Dimension and the regular Honeywell E080 IP module.
pbg75 Posted September 9, 2013 Author Posted September 9, 2013 The system I've got is a honeywell Accenta G4 connected to a SD1+ auto dialer. If the G4 can be connected to a more advance interface unit that I can control remotely via my phone either dialing in or even better using an app. But I would rather swap the control panel for one that has more features & as I have had to double up a few zones it's time to upgrade the panel. I have seen the alert me systems which seems to be on the right lines but I would rather have a nice panel on the wall with remote keypads.
GalaxyGuy Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 The Accenta panel doesn't support Ethernet. It's too basic a system for that. The G2 Galaxy range has 12, 20 and 44 zone options. All these panels have 12 zones on-board, with the larger ones requiring remote I/O modules which expand in groups of 8 zones and four outputs. They also support four keypads, or three if you consume one when adding the low cost Ethernet module. The Dimension range starts at 48 and goes up to 520. There's also the Flex which is currently being discounted, but I wouldn't bother with it, as there are firmware bugs on the IP side which Honeywell haven't addressed yet. You can pick up a new G2-12 for about £## on Ebay. The keypads sell there for about the same. The Ethernet IP modules can cost between £## to £###depending on which one you buy. Please no prices this is public
norman Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 What warranty would you expect when buying from an auction site? Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
GalaxyGuy Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 The panels are sold by a company called source security, so the usual distance selling applies. One of the early panels I bought had an RS485 bus issue and it was replaced without any issue. I've bought many since without any issues. TBH, it's pretty rare to see hardware faults on the Galaxy range.
