Guest Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Hi GeorgeWelcome to the forum. In the uk, all panels have mains power to transformers. Some remote end stations are just 12vdc dependant on what power is required, if needed we would use a smart remote which would also have mains. Pete 25696 Thank you Pete, Does the transformer have to be inside the panel casing? I use external safety isolated transformers and only that 15 - 19 (depends of the panel or external PSU)VAC from secondary coiling (again a term I am not sure about.. ) is going into panel casing. Does it in this situation have to be earthed (panel casing) ?
Guest Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 ...If the case is metal it must be earthed. Pete 25773 Absolutely? Even if no electricity is connected there? What if it is running only with battery? Can we bring ANY kind of voltage in to the metal case?
Guest Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 I understod that regulations say that if case is metal it has to be earthed in any case. I am just trying to find a solution when we do not have to earth the panel casing. If we leave the safety isolated transformer 1m away in separate casing from panel casing do we then have to earth panel casing?

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

Guest livewire Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Since the panel must be earthed, I got some unscreened CQR made 8 core supplied by Gardiner Security so it should be of good quality. Installed all runs today and managed to avoid mains electricity cables. Will test it in a few days when everything connected. Just have one more question, what is the ideal position for PA switches and how many would you normally install in a 4 bed semi/d? regards
