james.wilson Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 i dont agree on ip vs sdi. High end >2 megapixel ip will aways beat hdsdi but doing a cost comparison then hdsdi wins the value battle. IMO hdsdi will be the mid range and ip will be the high end. But if you compare 2mp hdsdi to 2mp ip then the recorded image is similar but the live experiece is better imho securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Ronnie Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 have yet to seriously look at HDSDI - can anyone recommend some decent kit?

Adi Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Agreed We have sent 4 video feeds down 1 cat5 over 200m without problems. Ive gone a lot further than that, reckon i was nigh on to 1km - no issues. Power down cat5 no issues at all, ive done silly distances, trebled up power pair- again no issues. I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
james.wilson Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I just wish there was an hdsdi balun securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
sixwheeledbeast Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I just wish there was an hdsdi balun Its only a serial data signal at about 3Gb/s so I don't see why it couldn't be transmitted over Cat5. Oh a quick search mid-post gives http://www.videcon.co.uk/product_details.php?StockID=1446&l1=199&l2=202 Should be others...?
james.wilson Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 The VHD-CAT5-CONV enables an HD-SDI signal to be transmitted over Cat 5 cable for up to 35 metres, or Cat 6 cable for up to 60 metres. bit short on range though. But I was meaning over a single twisted pair like PAL securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
9651 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 just prefer rg59 from an engineers point of view, strips better, repairs better, tougher. all in my opinion ofc also like reels better than boxes. was certainly not that I was forseeing hd-sdi never bothered with IP, left it for the computer based competitors Seems like it didn't take off......yet hd sdi puts old school cctv to shame. Budget Hdsdi can read number plates with a wide angle lens better than double priced analogue with a narrow angle lens. Thats a backwards step surely....................? We are just getting into ip, and i cant think of any reason to fit HD other than upgrading an existing Rg 59 installation?? IMO.
whistle Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I have just about finished installing a very large IP CCTV system, loads of axis 1,2 & & mega pxel cameras and alarm I/O mods. It's by far the best thing I have ever seen, not just saying that because I fitted it. The options of what we an make it do are almost endless and the image quality is very good even on 42" screens. The problem is finding a customer with the budget for such a system.
