cybergibbons Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I'm playing around with a Premier Elite 12-W at the moment, and I didn't want to spend money on a USB-COM cable. Turns out that normal FTDI USB->TTL serial cable works fine. If you look at the com ports on the panel, the pins are: Pin 1 – 12V Pin 2 – nothing Pin 3 – GND Pin 4 – Receive Pin 5 – Transmit And on FTDI: Pin 1 – GND Pin 2 – Don’t care Pin 3 – Don’t care Pin 4 – Transmit Pin 5 – Receive Pin 6 – Don’t care So connect them like so: Texecom – FTDI Pin 3 GND – Pin 1 GND Pin 4 Receive – Pin 4 Transmit Pin 5 Transmit – Pin 5 Receive My most recent blog post is about this, it has some additional photos. I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:http://cybergibbons.com/

cybergibbons Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 Here's a link to the post, just the same with a few photos and details: http://cybergibbons.com/alarms-2/programming-a-texecom-premier-elite-12-w-using-a-ftdi-cable/ I have to say, Wintex is pretty good stuff. I was really struggling with the menus, it's very hard remembering where certain items are. It amazes me that Yale are selling an alarm for not much less that this (once you have bought another door contact, battery, and bell box for the Texecom). The functionality is worlds apart. norman Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Some great photo's btw, guessing you used to be a bit of an urban explorer? Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

cybergibbons Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 Yep, used to do a lot of exploring. It all got too popular and totally focused on photography and I lost interest. I reckon as soon as the little man is old enough we will be off doing it though I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:http://cybergibbons.com/
Joe Harris Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I like www.28dayslater.co.uk - But i'm bias as there is loads of local stuff
norman Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Yes I am a member there albeit only to browse, I'm too old and too chicken to do any exploring myself. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
