arfur mo
Very true, for retail theft it can be helpful. But in a big store like PC World, it would pay for itself quickly. What about a newsagent, small distributor or small software company? Does it add anything for them? If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! What about a newsagent, small distributor or small software company? Does it add anything for them? Thats the common concept but in reality often incorrect. shop lifter has it awY with a phone, recordings are fine. If coppers recognise they might find him/her, arrests. So to prosecute, manager has to go and attend court, more cost. Perf fined £50 and laughs it off! If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! The big retailers do not waste money. I can assure you they save money with their systems, even though they may spend £15-20 million/annum on them. arfur mo
So I'm wide of the mark? B&Q big company i 'd say, yet only has CCTv on the tills. ex girlfriend of Son worked at a local branch, said they lost several lawn mowers a week through fire escape side door - no cameras. Not the systems fault, just lethargy caused by no faith in the culprit being caught unless known, the cops under budget so not bothering, if they do the courts not taking punitive action! So as for me being out of touch ...............not on your life! If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

PeterJames
Monitored CCTV and Stand alone CCTV are two very different beasts, Monitored is very useful if you are using the system to detect intruders ect. Standalone CCTV is better if you want to know what happened after the event. Monitored CCTV would be no good in most domestic situations as it is too expensive to pay someone to sit and watch it in case something may happen. For instance I have CCTV on my house and my business, my car has been hit twice outside my old house. Both times I sucessfully identified who and when and both instances the damage was paid for. My business same thing a lorry knocked the wing mirror off my car CCTV captured the whole thing. Quite a few domestic customers have CCTV because they are having neighboor problems and they need to supply proof stand alone CCTV does exactly that. For small comercials its stops employee theft, it captures who and how when it comes to shoplifting. Schools use th CCTV to view who pressed the fire bell, who pushed who down the stairs, who is smoking behind the bike shed, to protect their staff from being accused of stuff they didnt do Now none of the above justify monitored CCTV the cost would outweigh the gain. Dont get me wrong I have nothing against monitored CCTV remote or otherwise, I have several remotely monitored sites but it is a case of horses for courses and not a case of stand alone CCTV has had its day
