InsecurelyAttached Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Hello all, I had to replace the battery on my Optima XM. Seems fine powered up, NVRAM retained the code and I have a 'day' LED on. However, to disconnect the mains I disconnected the 2 blue transformer wires from the mains terminal. Pic here: note 2 blue wires on left unconnected. Unfortunately the pic I took before disconnection is corrupt! I'm not sure which blue wire is +ve or -ve, or if it matters. Can anyone help? Thanks for your time, IA
datadiffusion Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Better to just pull the internal or external fuse for functional isolation. Be very careful around mains electricity, if you are not a qualified electrician. If you don't want to use a professional, turn off the power at the mains, and connect the two blue wires either way round. There is no polarity for an AC transformer of this type. So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
matthew.brough Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 It's AC so doesn't matter @DD beat me to it. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
sixwheeledbeast Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Yeah, not really a good idea to remove those wires. A shock from any of them terminals could kill. Also noticed the panels earth wire is cut off which isn't good either, not to mention the missing tampers on the zones and bell...

sixwheeledbeast Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 but just thought, whats the point.... Not offering to go around and fix it. However, most people don't even realise things are wrong/dangerous, so worth the mention.
datadiffusion Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 True, but if its a placcy case and OP doesn't know what they're doing, perhaps best left undisturbed Cable will still have cpc to point of entry, not how you or I would do it of course. MrHappy Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Cable will still have cpc to point of entry, the ones I've found normally don't Mr Veritas God
