BDL Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I have posted this question as a comment to an earlier thread. Please excuse me putting it in here as well but I see the possibility of the earlier thread being dormant. I have a Delta 6 bell box. It was installed in my old house. Now I've moved and want to re-install it, with a new wireless control panel. Before choosing a suitable hybrid control panel ( because the Delta 6 needs cabling in) I want to be sure the bell box works. I have no user instructions. Please could someone advise where I might get the Delta 6 user manual or suggest a way of checking the bell box out in advance? By the way, the on-board battery still functions - the LEDs pulse when the Tamp microswitches release. Many thanks, Brian
Alarm Protection Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 For about 30 buks you could buy a new bell with install instructions. What panel are you installing? !
BDL Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 For about 30 buks you could buy a new bell with install instructions. What panel are you installing? Thanks for your response. I want to install the existing bell box because I have no reason to believe that it isn't functional. (And I don't like consigning good stuff to landfill.) Oh, and by the way, this one has some sentimental value, strange as that may sound. And I don't want to choose another contrrol panel (which I will need to do anyway for my new wireless system) until I know whether my bell box works and whether I could do without a hybrid panel and just go for a wireless panel with all wireless ancillaries including a new "few bucks" bell box. So I can't tell you my control panel will be. This might indicate why I would like to test the bell box before going any further. As to my second question as posted, being able to read the Delta 6 bell box installation guide might just answer all my questions. I have an Avo ( a real one) and know how to use it. If necessary I can tackle the test using the on-board battery to power the bell box but I would like to do the job correctly and in as simple a way as possible. So, back to my posted question, please can you either direct me to a source of the Delta 6 instruction manual (I queried Chubb on this nearly a week ago and they haven't replied), or offer some advice on how to test the bell box without the Chubb documentation. Hope you or another forum member can help. Brian
Alarm Protection Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Your bell has sentimental value? I would suggest cabling in for the external bell anyway over a wireless bell. Choose your control panel and bench test the bell before installing it. If it doesnt work then buy a "few bucks" bell. We are not allowed to give out install manuals. !

I'm no further forward Alarm Protection, am I. I'm not asking the forum to give out a manual, just tell me where I can get one. And as for your suggestion that I bench test the bell, well that's what I wanted your advice on. I asked the forum two simple questions and haven't yet received any answers. Please can ayone help? Many thanks, Brian
SouthernBrad Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Hi BDL I doubt you'll get a manual to be honest, they come with all new Delta's but most engineers leave it on site or bin it.It will work on pretty much any control panel, the black jumpers on the PCB will allow you to change the Bell and Strobe triggers. To test it I would get the battery out of your old control panel (12volt) and wire a wire from the positive on the battery to the positive terminal on the bell and the same from the battery negative and the negative terminal on the bell. The bell will not activate when it first see's 12volts so shouldn't sound. Now you need to have another piece of wire from the positive and link it to the terminal marked "H-off" with it on the terminal the bell should be silent and when you remove the link the bell should activate. The same can be done with a link from the negative terminal to the terminal marked "Str" this will activate the strobe light. These are the default settings for a Delta 6 so should work unless they were changed to make it compitable with your system. They are great quality bells and well worth using again if you can.Hope this makes sense.

I'll give this a try soon when I can get a 12v battery, the original panel is in my old house a long way from here!. I'll post back with the results. By the way, I was hoping to just use the resident battery on the bell box instead of buying another; would that work or would that cause a problem, like locking the bell into constant activation? Anyway, I'm looking forward to tomorrow when I can have a crack at this. All the best, Brian
BDL Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 I was suggesting bench testing your sentimental bell with your new panel to get it to work as I have the wiring diagrams for new panels to this bell. Many thanks for this. I'll try to do a bench test on the bell to decide whether I can use it with the new system. If it works I'd be glad of any assistance you could offer on connecting a new control panel. All the best, Brian
