BDL

Recommended Posts

Chubb Bellbox, speak to Chubb......................simples.

Not that simples. As I said in an earlier post on this thread, I contacted Chubb quite some time ago and my e-mail wasn't answered. Any more ideas please?

All the best,

Brian

Many thanks for this. I'll try to do a bench test on the bell to decide whether I can use it with the new system. If it works I'd be glad of any assistance you could offer on connecting a new control panel.

All the best,

Brian

Ah right, your previous post was a bit of a belters post.

Now you appreciate the help etc?

If admin could make me in trade please ? And not see any Arf posts aswell?

No Problem BDL,How long did you have the bell for? The batteries are usually changed every 4 years or so but they last donkey years to be honest so I'm pretty sure it'll be fine just check it's not damaged in any way.

Where abouts are you located?

Brad,

I got a 12v supply ready and opened the box to go through your suggested steps. To cut a long story short, the bell seems to work fine so far.

At first I saw that the 0v lead from the battery had been unscrewed from the terminal strip so I reconnected it; the blue LEDs began to blink. Then I connected the 12v supply to the 0v & 12v terminals and both siren and strobe turned on immediately. No problem as I was wearing ear defenders, but it meant that I didn't get round to your check of the bell and strobe by connecting the +12v and 0v terminals to H. Off & Str. Not to worry, I'll check these things soon. I presume that the alarm went off straight away because the lid & wall tamp switches were open. The alarm state went away when I disconnected the on-board battery and turned the power supply off.

I then taped up the wall and lid microswitches, reconnected the box's battery and turned the 12v supply back on. The LEDs began blinking and the box remained at rest. I checked the battery voltage and found 6.5v, probably needs a period of trickle charge. Decided to knock off for the afternoon and turn off the power supply to the bell box for safety; this resulted in another spell of siren and strobe until I once more disconnected the bell box battery.

As far as I'm concerned the bell box is still doing its stuff and I'm happy and hopefull. I plan to trickle charge the battery tomorrow, hopefully to 12v. Then do your suggested H. Off and strobe checks and hopefully all will be proved well.

As to your questions. Don't know how old the bell box or battery are, the manufacture date seems to be Jan 2007 but it was in our previous house when we moved in so I don't know when it was installed, I just brought it with us. We are now living in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

Thanks again for the help so far, the job would have been much harder without it. Any more tips would be welcome as my intruder alarm knowledge is still at a very basic level. Next job will to pick a suitable control panel and some sensors. I fancy Chubb from the apparent quality of this bell box but I'll have to see what they've got to offer.

All the best,

Brian

No problem glad it was of some help.

Although the battery voltage seems about right I wouldn't want to see 12v coming out of it as they are only 6v batteries so it shouldn't require charging.

They can be quite competative on price these days.If you get a quote, stress you want a really neat job and they'll usually send an engineer thats good attention to detail.I know they do down here anyway.

Elmdene?

Yeah the Delta 6 is made by Elmdene.

I think we're there then, without any trouble thanks to all your help everyone, especially Brad. Hope I can return the favour. I'm now happy with the bell box and will get on with a few final checks before choosing a panel & sensors. Chubb is coming round Friday to quote but if they only install rather than supply I'm not sure they'll be the best choice. Would be nice to get an additional bell box (for the back of the house) that could be linked to the new control panel using wireless to cut down on the cabling - any ideas anyone?

Any further advice before I go ahead would be very welcome. Thanks again for all your help,

Brian
