Westindieman Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Hello to all as I am new here. I was moving the alarm wires in my loft and was using a small screwdriver to open the cable holders. I accidentally punctured the wire and must have created a short as the siren went off for about 10-15 minutes wouldn't respond to anything I did on the security panel. When it stopped the panel was displaying this message and the PIRs and alarm is not working. Can anyone advise how I reset this or solve the error? I believe this is a Eurosec CP8L. Many Thanks
arfur mo Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 you eill have likely blown a fuse in the panel, assumption made as the external siren only stopped after 15 minutes, if there is say more than 8 hours after your 'adventure' or a shorter time if the battery is old, it is running down. Given you have damaged the cable it is best to have it repaired properly, as if you might have skinned the cable it might short again, it could be subjected to corrosion at some later date. in any case you need a new fuse fitted inside the panel, as mains voltage is available in there, you must exercise extreme caution, or better use a competent alarm engineer for your own safety. If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
james.wilson Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Id agree sounds like a fuse but you will need to repair whatever damage you did, also it may be elsewhere damaged and you have a cable timebomb securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Alarm Protection Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 That isn't the main panel in your photo. !
Westindieman Posted December 1, 2013 Author Posted December 1, 2013 That isn't the main panel in your photo. These are elsewhere in the house. The large box has a fuse below it but that is fine. The top box with the cover removed doesn't seem to have any power to it and I cant see a fuse in it. Thanks
datadiffusion Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 So, guessing the link between panel and loft is a wireless link. Zones only or SAB as well I wonder? So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
Adi Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 blown fuse in main panel plus fix cable I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
Alarm Protection Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 If the top box doesn't have power going to it then check main panel after you have fixed wiring problem. Apart from that I would phone a local approved installer to fix the problem. As soon as you take the panel lid you might not be able to re set the system. You have a wired system with extra wireless detectors? Tbh just call a local to fix this as imo this cannot be fixed by a DIY. !
arfur mo Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 iirc these panels have only two fuse's, one for the mains in a block - be very careful if going anywhere near it, another is in line with the battery. this one cab have issues and i tend ti stretch the spring to give a better contact. Now it is just possible the controls 12v output to say the external siren or aux detectors was faulty at some stage, dodgy pcb, faulty terminal etc whatever, or a mistaken connection. so someone just might have wired it directly to another point of the pcb, not protected by electronic fuses, your short circuit has now blown the battery fuse, which at least has saved a pcb destructive burnout and possibly fire. for the above reason, even though i've seen this only a few times, you are advised it is better and safer to get a competent engineer in to check it out. If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Westindieman Posted December 2, 2013 Author Posted December 2, 2013 Many Thanks for all your replies and help. I can confirm it is a wired system with a wireless control panel. What is SAB? The system is has zones and the front door. I have tried to contact the Securicor guy who installed it 2 years (he was previously a neighbor) but he must have changed his number, and I did fit my own wired alarm system about 20 years ago and thats why i was trying to solve it myself. As a last resort I'm going to open the main panel as if I cant reset it whoever I have to call can do that all anyway. Will post back. Regards
