momo Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Hi, It's my 1st post here so be gentle please The system I have looks pretty much like this: Since the weekend though when we try to set the alarm instead of setting in the usual way (we always do a full set, never partial) it comes up with a strange message. I apologise in advance, i've not had time to take a note of it as each time i've tried to set it i've been running late to go out. Where usually it should say "Full set suite zones..........." It now comes up with a message along the lines of "Full set suite zones ...........P". And instead of setting correctly it continually beeps (pretty quick beep, like 2 beeps a second). Both the control panel and the main box containing the battery beep like this. So it has a P on the end but only when setting the alarm. If unset, it looks normal. From reading the user manual it says it'll be a power related problem. Has anyone seen anything like this or can confirm what the problem is? I have a feeling the battery is dying.. Thanks in advance. Mo
sixwheeledbeast Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Not worked on many Excel's but they are basically a Veritas with an annoyingly slow text keypad. I would guess you have a tamper or more likely a battery fault. I would guess the P is "Power" which on a Veritas flashes and causes the system to beep 10 times while setting. You should consider having the system serviced. The battery should be replaced every 4 years minimum.
momo Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 Ha ha. Yes they are very slow. Thanks for the reply. I have been looking into it more and speaking to a couple of companies (one from this forum but VERY expensive!!) who have both said the same thing - get it serviced! To be fair i've been in this house for 5 years now and i've never had it serviced or never had the battery replaced so it's time. I think the alarm was installed a couple of years before that. This guy said he will effectively reset the system to factory then reconfigure it and replace the battery. Sounds about right methinks..

I think it is very often over looked that the cost of a service every year is much much cheaper than the cost of the items the system protects. This guy said he will effectively reset the system to factory then reconfigure it and replace the battery. Sounds about right methinks..This sounds correct, obviously this would include the service after that. So checking all the sensors and sounders. I would call it a takeover, commission and service.
