One direction Audio would be fine, i.e. from the camera to the control. Either an inbuilt Microphone or with a socket for one. Pricewise I would prefer £100s rather than £1000s. Thanks. Rosko

I think you will mostly get tat under 400, but its not my area of expetrise, nor do I import direct from China ;-) So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
emsgeorge Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 ptz with audio ? Never ever seen one. Never underestimate the crud china can put out though ............ Are you talking indoor, if so, run a mic cable, and plonk a mic in a box (available from the likes of system q) next to the camera on the wall. Having played with mics for shop based applications, it is very very difficult to get any conversations, if all you want is background noise or when poop hits the fan style shouting, then you may be in luck.

arfur mo Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 i'd disagree tbf, i do find you do need either Headphones or powered speakers if listening via a PC sound card and client app. Big issue if outside is corrosion over time, i do know of someone who makes rain deflectors . I have bought several SQ PTZ's with very good results at a reasonable price, advice i would give is PTZ really is only of real use if someone is watching it 24/7 - why?, well just try playing back a few hours at x 4 when you only have a vague time line info! I compare it to grandad being bought a handi-cam, then tries to use it while stone drunk, impressing everyone withe 120 x zoom, causing everyone instant sea sickness who views ut. in most cases it is best to use 3 or more static cameras imho, if one fails only partial loss of cover is suffered, PTZ equals total loss. If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

Even the Siemens rep many years ago said he had no idea why unguarded sites used £££ PTZ when the same cash would buy multiple fixed domes. PTZ's are fine in shops etc if store security is zooming in on suspects hands, but has anyone really tried to find say a cracked car window over a 4 week period while client was away on holiday - from a PTZ? nighmare! especially if set up on multi-stop tours with zoom in/outs If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

Zoom in to see the ear tag - - identifies the beast you may be concerned about. A microphone in this situation is also invaluable as the status of a beast can be readily identified by the sound (or not) it is making.
