Alarm Protection Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Installed a garden centre about 2 years ago with 38 wired zones and now because they are extending we have to move it. All expanders are in the panel aswell. A total ball ache. What joint boxes does everyone use for the amount of wiring? Will have to move the line aswell.....FFS! !
satsuma01 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 can you not pull back to walls in the area and remount in different sections near to original location? Alarm Protection Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 Still working away on this and can't mount panel within the nearest 20mtrs as it would be in the new toilet facilities lol. Not happy about the drawings stating where the panel should go and extra detection needed as it is very minimal. Going on site Wednesday to discuss again but they start work on Monday.... for the time to organise. The panel will not move untill I have every tick and signature in place as it would end up a nightmare. Just e mailed the manager to ask him about extending the fire and he "never thought about that" Will use your method Goncall as it will keep it neat . This is one of those situations where the security was thought about last. Learnt my lesson last time so nothing will be done without signatures and 1st fix etc. !
antinode Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Can you not mount the expanders closer to groups of detectors? Don't know the site, but there must be runs of cables where it might be feasible to mount a few expanders in the field and then run a single data cable out to them? Whatever you put in place of the panel (JB/PSU/small cabinet etc), it's still going to be in the way as idealy it needs to be accessible for future faults etc. I'd give em a silly price to re-cable back to new panel location and hope they just build a cupboard around the existing panel Trade Member
morph Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 You wont be doing it for free, redesign, recable, fit the additions and charge accordingly, job done So no problem really.
arfur mo Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 as above, not knowing panel or layout, i assume networked expanders. Think i'd likely take the panel mounted expanders one by one and fit them to the other end if their respective existing cables at the first detection point, redirect those allocated zones direct into it's expander (or re-allocate). You will have already run several zine cables that are no longer needed, so just a matter of using the most and convenient ones as data links, to link to the new panel location. We all work differently, but personally i don't put more than one expander actually inside the CU (or PSU), nothing wrong in it, i find it makes for less crowded cables and easier to achieve neatness, making it far easier to trace to split up if you ever get a short or an earth fault. If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
