zerozero Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 If you are using a 48 with 16 wired zones, you will only be able to use 24 wireless unless you use 4 keypads and use the keypad zones for 8 of your wired zones Hi breff, Let me give a clear example I want to use Premier 48, 8 zones available. Use 8 Keypad 2 zones available, Use 2 8xp expansion, 8 zones available. Use 8 8xp expansion, 8 zones available. Use 2 32xpw expansion, 32 zones available. Use 28 Total zones used 48. 28 wireless, 20 wired. Are you saying that this would not work? I think that contradicts what matthew.brough confirmed earlier when he said that the 32w aren't used until you assign detectors to the zones. This is vital to my planning as the control box is quite an expensive piece of the system.
matthew.brough Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 The term 48 can be misleading a to get 48 zones you have to use the 2 zones on the back of keypads I believe rather than expanders. Personally I'd be very reluctant to use the control panel to its maximum capacity as it leaves no future room for expansion. Breff will be able to confirm as we don't really use these panels. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/

Correct. 4 x Expander Slots = 40 Zones 4 x 2 RKP Zones = 8 Zones Total = 48 Zones Same applies on 88/168 Panels.
zerozero Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 Thanks guys, checking the correct manual (INS467-5) shows this. "The address range and switch position will depend on which combination of expanders are being used. Each 32XP-W takes up 4 address slots on the control panel network, however the network slots are virtual until devices are assigned to available zones. It is possible that if a 32XP-W is being used at Address 1, but only 16 devices have been used, Address 3 & 4 are available for hardwired 8XP's or 8XP-W's." Then it goes on to show that on the Premier Elite 48 you can mix a 32XP-W with 16 devices on and 2 x 8XP's with 16 devices used. However I wouldn't be able to use more than 16 to get this and I think as soon as you use 17 you reserve the next address, so up to 24. Thanks all for the pointers which led me to RTFM like I should have done in the first place Back to considering final phase and if I will have enough in the 48 for later expansion.
breff Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Get an 88 The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
Adi Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Get an 88 2 fat ladies?, im up for that I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
zerozero Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Yeah I'm leaning that way also, although I miss out on being able to use the bundles which is aroud £100 saving. Maybe one of the online retailers would do a discount on a bulk buy of stuff? Does anyone know if any of them are open to that that are worth approaching on this?
matthew.brough Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I wouldn't waste your time. The attitude of most manufacturers is if you want it buy it, if you don't, no skin off our nose. The kits you mentioned are bought from Texecom as kits, these aren't something the retailer is making up and offering a discount. The profit margin on this stuff is so little you aren't going to get any deals. I'm afraid it's a case of pay the asking price or get an alternative piece of kit that's cheaper. The retailers definition of bulk buy isn't yours. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
datadiffusion Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 If you are doing it yourself, that's the saving. No one likes to pay more than they need, but if you really need to fight over the last few quid whilst still insisting you need a 48+ zone system for what I assume is a domestic property, it really is time to scale your plans back a bit. As per Matt I wouldn't even bother trying to negotiate if non trade, the stuff is rock bottom compared to 10 years ago, considering functionality etc... So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
