cybergibbons Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Yeah, been busy building rather than breaking - got frustrated with the reversing on the signalling devices (not as easy as alarms, which I guess is good). I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:http://cybergibbons.com/
datadiffusion Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Yes, very! Keep trying though So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
zerozero Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Thanks again for all the input. Great artlcle cybergibbons, I'm happy to learn all this stuff and be the exception DIY install that pros would be happy to take on and URN'd if I so choose later on Does anyone have any links to guides or the regs so I can learn the requirements and check my plan against them?
datadiffusion Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Regs themselves are several hundred pounds from British Standards, ACPO guidance document is free, but many sites have good summaries of the BSEN50131 and PD6662:2010 but nothing like the full content. So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
cybergibbons Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 They are actually quite hard to get hold of, short of paying. Even if you do get them, they aren't exactly easy reading or easy to translate into real world actions. TBH, if I was doing a home install, I would concentrate most on safety (there are a lot of home alarms that aren't safe from a mains wiring side of things..), detector placement and keeping things neat and tidy rather than aim for meeting the regs. matthew.brough Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 rather than aim for meeting the regs. All well and good, until he want's a URN . . . www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
cybergibbons Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 All well and good, until he want's a URN . . . Is there anyone that would take on a DIY install though, no matter how good? I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:http://cybergibbons.com/
datadiffusion Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 They are actually quite hard to get hold of, short of paying. Funny isn't it? I managed to get some of the ENs for sliding gates by accident - some co had essentially quoted them in full and republished, Oops! Is there anyone that would take on a DIY install though, no matter how good? It would have to be exceptional circumstances So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands

Yes, the ENs for panels were left on a manufacturer's site, open, as well.... I have a blog, some of which is about alarm security and reverse engineering:http://cybergibbons.com/
matthew.brough Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Is there anyone that would take on a DIY install though, no matter how good? Unlikely. Maybe tin pot one man band but doubt any serious company would. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
