secureiam Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Well I may well do yet, but £792 inc vat, seems standard price new, and not been able to find any cheaper, found plenty dearer (electric center 1k unless i am looking in wrong place), £500 second hand then it seems a little much. at £320-350 thats 400 saved over new straight up for a newish mft 1720 and I think I have to consider that seriously. Money isn't an issue just yet, but you cant keep treating it as a bottomless pit can you. dont think anyone has sold at £500 touch for the second hand units on the last few days at least.
Cubit Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Perhaps then, you may need to cut your cloth accordingly. Look at alternative units.
secureiam Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 if these are as good as people say a nearly new unit doesn't worry me too much. Just how far do you suggest cutting the cloth on alternative equipment.
Cubit Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 if these are as good as people say a nearly new unit doesn't worry me too much. Just how far do you suggest cutting the cloth on alternative equipment. Only you can make that call. Personal preferences, potential usage, job vallues etc. Only you know.
secureiam Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 was hoping you would suggest some alternatives that you thought weren't a complete waste of money to start with. agreed its my pocket, my customers etc, doesn't mean i am not open to advice from established pros?
Cubit Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Metrel, Megger, Seaward, Fluke. End of the day it's not something you buy regularly. So it's a personal choice. Me, i have a Metrel unit, not caused me any bother, nor would i expect it to.
goncall Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 my mates got a metrel not sure of the model it's a great meter, better than a megger imo
secureiam Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 no worries i'll take a look and do some reading. I always make the right call in the end, even if i have to try more than once.
PSE Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Metrel have a tendency to do Guestimates rather than actual correct readings, They tend to stray. I've had 4 of them in the past, Always ended up using my trusty Robin 3075, 5406DL & 4020DL separate's, which I still have. They measure exact as my 1720, Don't use them very often as I use my 1720 for virtually everything
secureiam Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 well the good news is as long as the paperwork matches the unit, they will honour the remainder of the warranty.
