Lectrician Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 I have been asked to install a dor chime to a shop. The shop has NO alarm. I was wondering if there was a cheap panel i could buy, and fit a mag contact and a couple of speakers to it. 1. would the panel still require a battery, or would it boot back up after a mains failure? 2. would it be safe to assume that if no zones/sounders are connected, there should be no false alarms at all? 3. The max output is usually for a 16ohm spk, if i connect some in series/parallel, keeping the imp to 16, will the sound output be lowered per speaker, and would this damage the panel? Mister_Dave Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Easier idea is to wire a door bell to the mag contact. Dave Oxendale York based security systems engineer.

Can you get mag contacts than close when the door is opened?? Email : martin@askthetrades.co.uk
bellman Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 just mount the contact away from the frame on a standoff.... then when door is closed it's open as door opens it passes the contact and goes closed, then goes open as the door fully opens..... norman Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 You can still get the old fashioned bell and strike unit. Cheap and effective. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Guest RICHL Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Or, a plug in PSU, cheapo PIR near the door with a 12v buzzer stuck to it. And maybe a switch as an optional extra.

(the reveal on the door is a foot thick due to the thickness of the wall, contact on this wall, and mag on door..........no need for a 'stand off' as such. ......... A doorbell tranny, a couple bells and im away........... Email : martin@askthetrades.co.uk
bellman Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 The simplest solution often works best, and by it's simplistic nature tends to be more reliable. I'd put a relay in line if your using bells though as the initial start current will more than likely weld the contact shut. Glad to have been of help. Now, about my consultation fee Regards Bellman Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
