matt5595 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Hi, Just installed an optima compact 4 the other day, finished the programming, and everything seemed to work fine then needed to finally remove the extension speaker to a different position, so I did this whilst in engineers mode. I had to add this as the speaker on the box itself only worked whilst this was connected. I then reconnected the speaker and firstly there was no sound inside at all no keypad beeps or setting beeps. Is this normal and is there something that could be causing this?? for any help in advance Also the control panel then seemed to lock up
james.wilson Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 where did you get this speaker from. sounds like you have blown the driver in the panel if nothing is beeping anymore. have you tried disconnecting thism speaker and reconnecting the internal one securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
matt5595 Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 the speaker wasn't even working before i connected the internal extension one anyway, the speaker is a dual sound bomb. I also noticed that the terminal screw for the connection scb A was not tightening enough aswell then the cable just kept falling out. Could that maybe have been the cause??
james.wilson Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 are you connecting this sound bomb to the speaker connections? securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
sixwheeledbeast Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Erm, a "dual sound bomb" isn't an "extension speaker"
james.wilson Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 that was my point securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
matt5595 Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 yeah i connected it in parralell with them am I meant to connect it somewhere else?, just in the optima compact 4 manual it says that you can connect an extra speaker to the speaker output aslong as its 16 ohms??
james.wilson Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 yes you can but you have a sounder not a speaker. a speaker is ac, a sounder is dc. you cant connect a sounder to the speaker terminals securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Rulland Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Speaker works on millivolts, and connects to speaker terminals, sound bomb and sounders work on 12 volts and connect to 12 volts, mix the two and it tends to hurt the main panel unfortunately.
