Lee Powell Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Hi. Any help/guidance would be appreciated... We left for a few days holiday on Monday, and set the house alarm as usual. When we got back home we found the keypad to the alarm was making a odd clicking noise, and a message on the display said "FORIGIEN LETTERS" (which I've never seen before). The keypad is unresponsive to any amount key pressing and the external alarm box is flashing bright white although there's no audio. It wasn't until I spoke to my neighbour and he said the building development behind my house - a digger went through a mains line and took power out to a large number of houses. Apparently it blew the bucket off the digger! The mains was off for about 3 hours until they put in a temporary fix. Would it be possible for something like this to have damaged my alarm system? Should I be having words with the site foreman? From what I can find out the control panel is a Menvier TS2500 (but has a cooper security sticker on it too). Not sure about the rest of the system as it was already installed when we bought the house.
datadiffusion Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 If the digger crossed two phases you could have had a massive spike that has blown up the system (I have seen a whole caravan parks 'electronic devices' inc. RCBOS blown up by a seconds worth of neutral failure causing phases to combine) Or you might just need an engineer to do a full reset, service, and fit a new battery - I also suspect that the main battery is duff, either because it was anyway or because it was drained to empty duiring the power cut. BTW the keypad says Cooper as they bought Menvier and Scantronic many years ago. They have themselves been bought by 'Eaton' now. So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
sixwheeledbeast Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 As dd really. Foreign Letters is normally shown when there is no data at the keypad. I would also suspect the heartbeat light is not flashing in the panel. Reboot the system, new battery (worthwhile getting someone in to do a full service) and hope it's not blown.
MrHappy Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 As you have a panel for a large commercial building in domestic property, recommend finding a proper alarm co, to attend & advise Mr Veritas God
matthew.brough Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 2500 in a house? Must be a big house www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
norman Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 One of my all time favourite panels Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Lee Powell Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 Might have got it wrong about it being a TS2500 then! Oops. All I know is the keypad looks the same as the one on this user manual: http://www.coopersecurity.co.uk/repository/products/TS2500%20op%20guide%20(496496_iss2).pdf Front of the keypad says: Cooper Security MI-BZ 08-94-0250
datadiffusion Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Ah, right.... there are tons of models all with the same keypad. Probably a 600 or the like. TBH the original advice still applies! So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands

Unlikely to be a 2500 unless you own a huge house.
