Accord xpC

:D Hi guys!

I moved into a new property recently. the vendor did show me the accord xpC 8 system and said he was paying about £15/month for monitoring. I was already pretty stretched so did not hesitate to tell him we would not be going for that but would appreciate if we could arm it to give an audible alrm only.

Everthing has worked well for the past seven months, no problem at all until when my wife came into the house through the back door . The alarm went off. She disabled it. fine. Now it wants an engineer/technistore code to reset the system.

I called up //.National Installer.// and they'd be happy to come out to 'look' at the problem for a minimum charge of £88 and then to 'unset' the system. I was advised that the charge could go up substantially and they refused to provide me with a fixed cost. Not helpful to my tight budget in view of rising interst rates :realmad:

Now, i am a fairly techie sort and i have read the manual and other docs left behind by the vendor three times over but cannot understand how to power down and then power up the system so that i can return it to it's default engineer and master code and thereby reset it from my end.

I have established a good relationship with a couple of my neighbours and we really do look out for each other . They are retired and at home most of the time. It's a good neighbourhood to boot so i DO NOT require further expensive monitoring at this time.

I would appreciate any helpful information or reasonable assitance without signing over a blank cheque to some organisation. i understand that they have to make money but I did not ask for a lock in. if you know what i mean.

Thanks.

For security reasons we would not be able to tell you how to reprogram this system yourself, however I am sure there will be someone on this forum close to Essex that will be able to help at a reasonable fixed cost.

If  there are no replies I would suggest getting out the YPages and phoning round, ( remember the cheapest deal will not always be the best)

Thank you for your reply. Well, somehow, i figured out where on my electricity circuit board, the alarm switch was so I cut off power to it without shutting down the whole house. :w00t:

The battery symbol confirmed I'd hit the right one. The battery took almost three days to run out! I then had to endure the internal bell for a couple of hours because i wasn't sure if the system had really shut down. :(

I put back the power, followed the instructions in the manual and resetting the system was easy after that. Now I have complete control over the system. :D

Now that i have had some trouble with the security system, I must confess that I respect the ingeniuty of the manufacturers and installers of the system. ;) It seems to me that the system is really tamper proof.

My final advise on this one, do not mess around with the Accord xpC if you are not tech savvy. B)

Thanks again Pete.

This confirms my point:

All the info IS available, this guy was left the full programming man.

Just check the internet, manuals are available, and for free.

It's not a security issue, if he was in the house as an intruder the alarm would have activated.

This just sells the good side of monitoring.

There was no external siren, just the internal one. A good hit with the hammer

would silence it.

Any help earlier would have ment he would not have to put up

with the internal siren for so long!!

I really don't know what to add to this topic, although I do feel that something is not right here!

Not sure what, just something.

Help was given he should of called someone out of the YP then he would not of had to sit through the sounder sounding for several hours.

The only difference now is, if his battery hasn't managed to fully recover he wont know till his next power cut.

Security kit is not meant for amateurs to play with, if everyone understands how it works then there would be no point to it.

that's pretty much the guts of it Pete. I think we should be helping people out in some situations and it is a fine line to judge, but the original post in this topic suggests that the 'customer' should have a visit from a professional

If you don't know......ask.
