We have migrated away from windows completely now. Was running an sbs server. Current setup.

Office.

1 x Core i7 Based Ubuntu server running 4 drive raid 10 (2tb barracuda's) and 8 GB ram

1 x Core i7 Based Ubuntu server running 6 drive raid 10 (2tb barracuda's) and 12 Gb ram

1 x core i3 based sme server with 2 drive raid 1 (2tb barracuda's) and 8 Gb ram (local usb nightly backup)

All 64 bit

Virtualised on the ubuntu lts machines are

4 x win7 desktops (for remote working use)

2 x SME dedicated backup servers backing up TSI, SW and SIA servers)

1 x SW Mail server

10 x Desktops and Laptops (win7/ 8.1 (apart from 1 xp machine)

Offsite 1

1 x Intel atom based sme server (2gb and 2 TB) dedicated to backing up as above

Offsite 2

1 x HP Microserver running sme dedicated to backup

Offsite 3

Dual Xeon, 9 drive raid 6( 1 x hot spare) 1 tb es.2 seagate drives running vm's on SME. Runs TSI and various dedicated backup sme servers backing up all SME servers in production

We run sage, ccrs (our sia db), swoc (the sw equiv) and use thunderbird for email.

Have full non auto failover recovery and no ms licence fees.

Hardware isnt cheap (But all desktop gear but 2 servers) but all i have no is desktop licence fees.

All mail is virus scanned, all files are scanned nightly, all web traffic is virus scanned and guarded.

All traffic for remote users is via vpn

All backup servers use rsync and incremental backup so traffic is light and can restore a server to anytime over the last 2 years.

Most servers are backed up nightly but some (tsi and sw) are 6 times a day.
