Veritas R8 Control Panel

Hi, we have a Veritas R8 alarm system.

Whilst decorating today, I was stripping wallpaper around the control panel. The alarm activated as "tamper" - but since then, I haven't been able to get the control panel to accept any key-presses. The Zone 1 light is lit, and the strobe is flashing, but no matter what I press, there is no response.

Would it be safe to assume that the control panel has "died", and is it a simple process to fit a replacement panel?

Many thanks!!

When you say the control panel, do you mean the keypad or the box where all the wires go back to? (They are often confused).

If its the keypad, check that all 4 wires are still connected, and that the keypad is correctly seated in the mounting.

Sorry - yes, I mean the keypad - all 4 wires are still connected, and the keypad is correctly seated.

If you are able , check the continuity of the data lines to the remote key pad, if one is lost it will give a tamper alarm. You may have "disturbed" the wiring with your wallpaper scraper. :)

Good point... but all the cables appear fine

When a RKP is powered but offline , it will display its address (yours shows 1) so I would still say check continuity, or call on the services of a man who can. :)

You could have caught the wiring where it enters the back of the rkp. :o

Regards.

Thanks for that... it is also showing "Unset" - just (re)checked the wiring - all seems ok

Just re-read this... the wiring is ok, but the keypad still doesn't respond.

You could power down , mains then battery , check all tampers especially the rkp , then re-power and hope this clears it.

Realised when I went out to work this morning that the strobe on the bell-box is flashing as well.

Tried powering down... alarm sets-off when I disconnect the mains. Disconnect the battery. Reconnect mains, alarm stops ringing... and then the light starts flashing again. Keypad still shows Zone 1 and Unset.

I am considering buying a replacement RKP, but is it a simple task of just connecting it?

***STOP PRESS***

A neighbour has complained that the strobe flashing all night disturbed them. Is there an easy way to stop it flashing? What would happen if I disconnected the mains and battery? Would the whole system have to be re-programmed?
