jb-eye Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 I have produced some fire maintenance documents for my lads to upload and down load when carrying out service visits. They are in Excel, Pocket Excel doesn’t appear to support them correctly; as in drop down boxes, tick boxes, etc don’t appear and all the forms parameters are altered when transferring the data to the PDA. Is this going to be a problem if we take the PDA or High End Mobile route or am I missing something?? I have been an alarm engineer 14 years but computers aren’t my bag and it would be an expensive experiment. 36680 Don’t experiment unless you are completely competent, and as you say you are not! So leave well alone. Will it be expensive? Well yes & no. I tried the “want to do my own gig” and was proud of the results. But at the end of the day you loose focus. I am in the maintenance and reoccurring revenue business. Let the data people sort the problems out. The initial outlay is the killer, but look at the bigger picture how much will you save on lost dockets or incorrect information. How much more efficient will you be. I would say it takes about a year to get the money back, mine was less than six months. Seriously consider taking a 12-month loan and let the improvements pay it off. Were talking maybe 2-4 thousand for a small business. Now to some, this is loose change but in my case I’ve been through two recessions and make my money in £10’s & £20’s so regardless of my bank balance a £100 is a lot to me. Is it the way to go? jb-eye Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 i,m just trying to get this straight in my head - will the co-pilot and bracket as listed work on both the hp and the new orange one or would it be a case of waiting for compatabbe equipment to be avaialable for the orange one?does the equipment from CLOVE act as an "hands free kit " or would i need to get some more kit for it to do that? 36727 Paul Talk about bang head if you had to set the GPRS up on the 6310 / HP i know exactly what you mean. The co-Pilot live feature forces our GPRS connection on mounting. Anyway back to the question the Arkon has different fly leads for connections to different PDA units. i believe the Orange will be the same as the O2 XDA. I currently use 1940 and 2210 and the same lead works on both only inverted. As for hands free we are using blue tooth earpieces but I would assume you are correct and as the Arkon has a speakers for amplification the unit should work hands free. The Co-pilot messaging system allows anyone you give privileges to, to send messages direct to your screen, which is, converted Voice to text. You’re answers are in the form of sender designed reply boxes (maximum of up to 6) you just touch the relevant box and the reply is returned to sender. If you get one before me and don’t like it Ill buy the thing from you.jef Customers!

jb-eye Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Dave an update on the PDA thing. As i described we are using PDA with GPRS 6310 on orange. This was due to the call sharing on O2 XDA not being viable to us. Have you seen the new Orange SPV M2000 yet. I was looking for new PDA's when i came across this. On upgrade 5 phones/PDA's are £90 each this will save me nearly a grand on PDA's. waiting for them to come into stock so dont order any until i get mine.Jef 36143 UPDATE Orange upgraded all my phones a couple of weeks ago to the SPV M200 PDA it cost nothing, NIL, £0. and its teriffic. Except the gay phone holster. CHECK THIS UNIT OUT!Jef Customers!

Guest Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 not a fan of pda's for work stuff, tho the panasonic toughbooks as used by royal mail engineers are the business(small laptop) touch screen etc and as the name says very tough..granted not cheap but worth the extra investment for a small team..
Guest Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Big thumbs up for the Toughbooks. Just got a CF-50 myself from a chap in Nottingham for a good price. He's got some touch screen CF-28s on eBay for a reasonable price at the mo.
jb-eye Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 How does it compare to nokias?42231 It’s Bigger Does it have vibrate and a keylock?YESHow are the phones for everyday use?PaulThe unit has e-mail, wireless, Bluetooth, SMS, It has a windows 2003 OS, a PDF reader, Camera, Video player, we have loaded navigation software. And it’s a phone. On the down side, it’s bigger than say 6310 but considering the post, we now only carry one bit of kit instead of 2, I hate the waist band cradle but it works well Jef Customers!
