justin Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Hope someone can clear this up for me. I have recenctly been told that duct grade cable (cat5 in my case) can not be run inside a building for more than 3 metres. As it enters a building it must be joined onto normal cable. This I am told is due to the toxic fumes the cable gives off in the event of it burning. I find the cable is so much better to use for CCTV in factories and other commercial building types. With this new info though I won't use it inside for anything. Has anyone ever been pulled up on this? Quote
Nova-Security Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 dont know the actual reg, we terminate as soon as it comes in to the building, Duct grade is polyurethane covered which isnt low smoke so i suppose its right. al-yeti Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Your possibly talking about the gel filled stuff??? , not used allot now, mostly was fibre optic problem , or larger cables that need to go further in, you joint because it's easier put in internal grade on thick cables, cctv / cabletv use that stuff , and as you say low smoke inside sometimes "specified" Quote
james.wilson Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 I'd agree with al, it's for the cable that had a petroleum jelly inside. Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
