james.wilson Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 im assuming you have the cable the wrong side of the coving and think you need a ceiling bracket? i can say ive only used them in 20 yrs of install 20 times tops and never for that reason securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
datadiffusion Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Always the sign of a rush job isn't it, bracketed PIRs sat in the middle of the ceiling. Used my 2nd one ever last month, moving an existing IR120. So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
Adi Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Cut the coving or fish, if thats the reason, then fill. You certainly DO want to screw through the back. I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
dwdave Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 Ok. I just followed the mounting instructions. It doesn't mention going through the back as a possibility. I thought I was doing it the right way. I will drill some more holes tomorrow!! 'till the next question ...

dwdave Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 Must have glossed over that one. I didn't fit them in the old place. They've been stored on the brackets. I've just assumed that they need brackets, either wall or ceiling as that's what's in the box. Live and learn! 'till the next question ...
james.wilson Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 many manufactures include awful brackets in their low end detectors. Have a look at the higher end that dont. All proper gear does not include a 'bracket' securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
charlie6 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Only ever used a bracket once, very enclosed space at bottom of stairs, otherwise I wouldn't bother.
Kingy_dc2 Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 I actually have a box full of these brackets if still required. I did have to use one, where the room had a blind which was full width of dormer, and was mounted from the ceiling, so had to mount PIR in front of blind as there wasn't a corner to mount to
datadiffusion Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Hi, welcome to TSI. This topic is 2 years old, and Dave has not logged in for over a year; so it's unlikely he will need any brackets! Why not introduce yourself and tell us about what you do here - http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/forum/14-introduce-yourself/ So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
