dwdave Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 It is beneficial for me to place a sounder on both the front and rear aspects of my install. On the front, I have a hipped roof with a gable end. Piece of cake to mount and wire. On the back, not so easy. Brick and block cavity wall leading up to the edge of the roof. Mounting isn't the problem I foresee, however wiring to it will be. How would this usually be completed. Thanks Quote 'till the next question ...
Simlec Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Just have one live box and one dummy box. It's your coms which should be your most important aspect otherwise it's just a system that makes a noise. Quote
charlie6 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I agree with Simlec, a dummy would probably do. but you should consider mounting the live sounder where it will generate most attention and sometimes this is at the rear of the property. If you intend using two sounders consider the output current, which could be around 4 to 5 hundred milliamps, sometimes less. This means that two sounders take 250mA and 350mA respectively for example, that's 600 milliamps which is 100 over the rated output of the panel. They may still make a noise (probably !) but it could be reduced.. and in some cases a fuse has been known to blow at the panel because of the overload. Some installers use SCB/SAB in order to reduce current draw. Quote
dwdave Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 Thank you. I haven taken that into consideration and have fitted a 2nd psu. perhaps then, as you say, the live sounder (I already have 2) should be on the rear wall but that leads me back to the first question ... how. Quote 'till the next question ...
charlie6 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 When you say 'how' what is it that concerns you ? routing the cables..mounting the sounder...connections in the panel..and so on. Quote
datadiffusion Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 If fitted to the rear you will lose the ability for the strobe to warn on approach of a prior intrusion, worth considering. Quote So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
norman Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Strobe shouldn't latch anyway. Quote Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
datadiffusion Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 But this is DIY and esp. if bells only a handy warning feature, no? Quote So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
norman Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 I personally don't like latching strobes, a great sign the systems probably finished re arming and is now off. Quote Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
datadiffusion Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 No I agree it's like having a keypad that displays set status, except I think the advantages outweigh on a domestic, myself. Quote So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
