Monteey Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 As we all seem to be in the 'remember the good old days' mood, thought id move the conversation on the old scannys from the User Manuals forum to here, everyone with me? One question i have to ask is what made Scantronic move from making panels that were a benchmark that all other manufacturers followed, to today's decidedly mediocre range offerings? Service Engineer Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Todays panels are simply far more sophisticated. The old 9100 used classic (overated) highly tolerant components, it was designed to last. The new equipment from all manufacturers nowadays is mass produced with the smaller & often cheaper SMD components. These are no where near as tolerant as the old devices, voltages and resistances are far more critical, and tolerances are determined by as little as 1%. Everything is being designed to be smaller and more compact, and that`s a pity. I`d willingly pay more for the quality of old, if it were encorporated into the newer panels. ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
bellman Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 I can't add anything more than has already been said. moden stuff is far more cheaply built that panels of "yester year" Regards Bellman Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
Service Engineer Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 I would expect a modern panel would be outrageously expensive if they made them like the 9100 Yeah, and sadly 3 times the size. ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
