Any other material that is fire resistant - there are lots of suitable plastics, but much harder to mould and cost ++.

 

So far easier for CU manufacturers to slightly modify (if at all) an existing metal design, and no actual need to test if metal burns.

So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands

I'm hoping for fire resistant plastic as it should allow for development of fixings for escape routes

 

It's widely available, but either far too brittle (phenolic) or far too soft / difficult to mould to small details (the sort they make car fuel tanks from) for this sort of thing, that's the problem as I understand it.
