Scott Morrison Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 (edited) Hi guys, Our local cricket club cctv system has packed in and the installer is not available to repair so we've decided to try fix it ourselves. I ordered an h view dvr box from ebay [Edit - no links please, generic bargain bucket 16 way analogue dvr] The new box done the trick and works with the old cameras and we now want to add a few more. The problem is they will need 100m cables from the box to the camera. They come supplied with 20m cables so I've been doing some reading and read the best option is cat5 cable with baluns. Going to give it a go but I'm just wondering is there anything I need to be aware of? Edited November 7, 2015 by datadiffusion Quote
datadiffusion Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Power loss, overload on existing psu, and implications for building insurance of diy works. Quote So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
Lwillis Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Interference on cat5 , psu issues HDD space on Dvr poor quality cameras giving almost useless images if anything happens etc. seen is it all before on DIY installs Quote
Scott Morrison Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 Thanks guys for the info! so overload on the psu, will I get this from using extended cables? If so can I avoid this anyway? I'm planning on using the same brand of cameras 720p 700tvl IR Quote
james.wilson Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 700 tvl is not 720p but thats a different subject. Voltage drop is a concern at the distances your talking about so id just use additional psu's local to the cams. Then you wont overload the existing (due to demand not cable length) nor have a volt drop issue Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Scott Morrison Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 Ok great so I'm thinking on using a separate power supply for the extra cameras (possibly 4) and double up the pairs on the cat5 power wires. Does that sound ok? Is there any power supply that you would recommend? Quote
james.wilson Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 What's the distance from the psu? Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Scott Morrison Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 The furthest camera will be 100m the rest May range between 50 and 100m Quote
Scott Morrison Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 Sorry I forgot to add, the original box that packed in was an 8 cam system, the new dvr is 16cam and only has the old 8 cams attached. Do I still need the extra power supply? Quote
datadiffusion Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 What is the power rating of each camera? Quote So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
