mountianrider Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Fitting HD CVI cameras with baluns, should I go for screened or norm cat5? Quote
Simlec Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Do they make baluns with screen connection ? pointless if they dont Quote
mountianrider Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Why do you have to use screened then? Quote
Simlec Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Do you mean shielded cat5e the one with just the aluminum foil ? When you said screened I had the one with braiding and drain wire in mind. Quote
Simlec Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 There still is no connection for a shielded cat5e plug in the balun. Quote
Lwillis Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Don't use cat5 if you can. Or watch for volt drop Quote
james.wilson Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Baluns are designed for utp so not screened Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
JasonOfOz Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 We made the mistake of using CAT-5 - CCA w/ baluns Never again! Our runs were less than 90m but still, this affected image quality - we had to boost it with additional PSUs to give it a good signal. Quote
petrolhead Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Screened or shielded cable reduces the distance you can send video using baluns Quote
