Hello there,

sorry, homeowner with very little experience of security systems here so please excuse my stupid question!

I was wondering whether I could get an opinion on an Accenta G4 alarm and its probable state of activation.

I moved into a flat fittend with an Accenta Mini GEN4 with LCD Keypad system with infrared sensors. The system was not used by the previous owners, so has been unused for at least six years now - I was never given any codes. In that time none of the batteries have been changed. The alarm has never gone off. None of the LCD on either the main panel or the remote keypad have ever been lit. At a recent power failure, there was no sound either of alarm or of beeping from the panels either.

Could you tell me whether I can conclude from this that the system is completely offline, and for example removal of any of the infrared sensors and cutting the cables will not result in a tamper alarm? Or do I need to call a specialist to take the system completely offline before I can do this?

And IF I were to cut one of the cables (one of the sensors is very much in the way of a renovation project), and it DOES go off, would cutting the main power line to the outside siren/sounder box shut it off again?

Thanks a lot, all help very much appreciated!

Can you not bury the cable where it is maybe carefully unclip it

Although your better off ripping whole system out , if your renovotaing completely replace cables while your at it , if not try and save the cables , system equipment probably might work but better having something upto date

hello again, slightly different twist on this post I see or I misread the other.

if there's no lights on the panel would appear to have no power to it and hasn't for some time.

1. Do you know the system works at (why has it been off for so long?)

2. If you don't know its working do you know any of the cables are any good?

3. As you know nothing about its integrity, you can check for continuity?

4. depending on the level of renovation you may want to consider al out and new cables etc in place, rather than worry about finding them not working later.

5. The mains, as said before, this needs to be isolated properly and left safe if you are refitting/ replacing the unit, at the moment you don't even know if there's power to the panel? it is not lit up or making any noises.

Get a pro to give you a quote to replace it and ask about moving cables and extra devices.

Probably posting too late but the accenta is not a bad little panel, cheap and cheerful but not very user friendly - fiddly dated keypad. You should be able to default the codes, i dont think I'm allowed to tell you how here but its probably obvious anyway. The outside bell might need a new battery if you want to do it properly along with the panel battery which with all the hassle of getting and replacing you may as well replace them both altogether and like others said if you already have floorboards up just rip it all out and start again or default, replace batteries and test.

more a case of wanting just to move a detector because its in the way of the renovation and didn't want to activate the alarm, think the post was confusing, the system has never worked to their knowledge.

They have been advised however they should consider what they want to do if the alarm is to be reactivated or replaced.
