Guest kscott Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Hi all, I have a Menvier Networker TS690R wireless security system. Last night (a windy, rainy night), the alarm box outside started to make a very loud clicking/crackling noise. The noise was similar to that made by a geiger-counter (for measuring radiation), but much much louder. The noise happened intermittently (on and off every 30 seconds or so) for a good hour before I managed to turn the thing off. Does anyone have any idea as to what could have caused the noise? A faulty speaker (or whatever makes the noise)? A faulty battery? Any clues greatly appreciated! Thanks! Kieran
ian.cant Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I would say its time for a new one, sounds like something is getting wet or damp. If it isnt already heavily corroded it soon will be.

norman Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 And be carefull with the strobe it gives a kick. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
ian.cant Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Its certainly not the strobe if its loud, its the sounder but i would agree a new bell box is needed as ive already mentioned.
Guest Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Is the bellbox also wireless? in that case it COULD be the battery.
ian.cant Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Georg explain to me how the battery can make a loud crackling noise? I point to the word LOUD!
bellman Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 More than likely Shorting to the sounder due to water ingress.. Although it could be contributed to by the strobe circuitry, especially if it's a combined unit like most slimline boxes these days. One thing's for sure, it's a gonner. replacement is the cure. As Ian mentioned above, "If it isnt already heavily corroded it soon will be.." Regards Bellman Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.

The pcb in the bell box is probably a nice white/green furry mess and the tracks are shorting because of the corrosion. Guest Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Georg explain to me how the battery can make a loud crackling noise?I point to the word LOUD! 28374[/snapback] well, if it is wireless bellbox it will somehow tell you that the battery is over. since i don't use wireless products very much, i don't know how this particular bellbox behaves when the battery is over. if battery is almost dead and it is loudspeaker type it can make "crackling" sound instead of normal one. And what i meant with "it could be battery" is that it could be halfdead..
