electrocam Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 First post, so let me introduce myself, I'm 22, from Exmouth, Devon, I mainly enjoy working with webcams and other interactive equipment that can be web-interfaced. I've worked with Sony EVI video confrencing cameras, they make good indoor webcams, Sony block cameras aswell, their always fun to work with! (see www.electro.ath.cx for my home cams) I've written software to web-enable control of a Dennard 2050 dome, and this is sucessfully in use along the seafront here in Exmouth, see www.exmouthcam.co.uk Currently, for privacy reasons, users can only control the cameras presets, administrators have full control where required (I use a USB joypad to control the cam from home, great fun ) Images are not recorded to video tape or archived on computer at all, in a way it's more OCTV than CCTV Where do I stand legally with this camera, as you all know it's a very grey area, a public camera in a public place where the public can view online or in real life. Thanks in advance! -Dave Trade Access/CCTV Member

electrocam Posted October 22, 2004 Author Posted October 22, 2004 Sorry about the state of the dome cam, we've had a rainy day, followed by galeforce winds and that kicked dust, sand, dirt etc up onto the wet dome, and now its stuck on, grrr Trade Access/CCTV Member
Brian c Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 I don't know where you stand on legally on this issue, but I'm pretty sure you would need to enable privacy zones on the PTZ's as I can see in your neighbours windows!!! I know it's not recording and therefore you may not need notices(unsure) but you definitely not be able to let anyone control a camera that can see private areas, to be viewed on the internet!! Again I'm not sure 100 % but I reckon being able to see private areas will be a big no no. If you don't know......ask.
electrocam Posted October 22, 2004 Author Posted October 22, 2004 The site where you can see peoples windows is my personal site, hope you read the disclaimer, hehe (only I'm sposed to use them for home security blah blah ) As far as the seafront cam goes, we dont have any plans to un-leash it's full control to the public, we did think of only during winter time, so there's no 'bird watching' etc, a time when people are scarse, but we'll put this off until we have a decent queuing and zoom-limit function.
