no its set to static ip . we are able to view ok over the network.

it must be set to static because the external ip is dynamic.

So remote access on a PC is the main issue now yes?

I don't know if the p2p is still available I have no info on that.

what is odd is that there is only a two digit space to enter a port number. Port 80 is used by default but I understood this was an http for use on the lan only?

there is no other option to enter any other port numbers anywhere else.

ddns is set up using dynds, I have pinged the port which comes back as open. Just about to give up and suggest a new dvr.

i imagine there must have been an install disk with the p2p info on etc. but that is long gone.

With most of these type DVR's you just need to open port 80 in the network router and point it to the IP address of the DVR (192.168.?.?)

Port 80 is the universal http port and it's the port this website is using.

P2P is probably Peer 2 Peer and without know the DVR and what it's trying to achieve with P2P I don't think it is of use in this instant.

Thanks all for your replies and support.

At the very last point of me throwing the towel in I went to site again, deleted the port forwarding setup in the router and re entered the settings and it all fell into place.

No idea why this changed it but customer now a happy bunny and me just a little bit more grey on top.
