Carlos McTavish Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Hi all The scenario is; We have a client with a Vista Smart disk DVR routed to a central station via ADSL (site 1). They have a second site that cannot get ADSL so have it on a 3G dongle into the router which works (site 2) of a fashion. BUT Every time the site 2 unit connects it has a new IP (dynamic address) so the central station cannot identify the site. I have created a permanent VPN between the 2 routers (both DrayTek) on the sites mentioned and can access site 2 from site 1 but I can't work out how to route outbound traffic via the VPN and on to the central station. My ideal solution is a static public IP on a sim (3G or 4G) but where to buy. OR (and why I'm asking) Another solution suggested by this community Hope you can help.... Quote
sixwheeledbeast Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 DDNS service? Have two static IP's on DSL at Site 1 and VPN 3G site 2 to the other static IP? Quote

Never had success with DDNS and central stations (especially those running Sentinel or Immix). The two static IPs idea might work though will need to check with the client if the provider, O2, will do this cheaply Will feed back. Quote
Jim1956 Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 I would suggest you speak to Comms365 in Milton Keynes. I recently got details from them for 4G routers with a static IP Quote
petrolhead Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Fixed ip sims are not cheap and have low data limits, expect to pay £70+ a month with a long contract for useful amounts of data. Quote

They are expensive and for example, 100Gb of data would cost £245.00 per month on a 24 month contract with a router price of £340. Over usage would cost 0.014 pence per Mb. In the case of our requirement, the unit forms part of a busines critical installation and the client is prepared to meet the cost. How far apart are the two sites? Quote
petrolhead Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Surely set the gateway for site 2 as site 1s router and set up some forwarding rules with different ports for site 2? Quote
